Modified Bitumen Roof (aka Torch-down) have been in use since the 60’s and for the last 50 years in USA. They are made up of a layered polymer bitumen sheets similar in nature to a prefabricated Built-up roof system. Due to the modified polymer & factory production these systems tend to be more flexible than a BUR system and provide consistency of sheet thickness. These systems are mostly heat-welded together (torch-down) although they can be cold applied (adhered) or hot air-welded. These provide a cost effective tough roof system where a cool roof and long-term warranties aren’t required.
